A historic restored 1920s tourist camp with kilometers of undisturbed shoreline on the mighty Spanish River will charm and restore you with rustic riverside cabins and framed prospector tents, authentic wood-burning sauna, solar showers, and other low-tech, eco-friendly simplicity. Authors of 2 outdoor cookbooks and hosts to thousands of outdoor enthusiaists including paddlers, hikers, mountain bikers, cyclists and birdwatchers, your hosts Beth and Betty Ann will treat you to a warm welcome with delicious fresh local foods and a relaxing stay. Excellent swimming, canoeing, kayaking, power lounging on the deck or dock, road cycling, nature hikes are at your fingertips when you stay. Canoes and kayaks are always available at no extra charge for guests. Competition class mountain biking trails are a short drive away, and day trips to other hiking trails and attractions including Manitoulin Island are a close drive. Cabins have retro novels, mags for your reading pleasure plus an extensive DVD library of independent films.
The Spanish Riviera is within close reach of most of the regions best flatwater paddling areas, making it a perfect pre or post canoe or kayak trip destination for good meals, great company, a ripping hot sauna, shower and a great sleep in a comfy bed lulled to sleep by the songs of loons. Our property has also been host to legions of personal growth, spiritually-oriented as well as arts-based retreats. The property features magical group spaces indoors and out for group discussions and personal reflection.
Your hosts: Beth Mairs is founder of Canada’s largest outdoor adventure company for women which operated from the premises for over 20 years. She was named one of Canada’s Top Ten Canoe People by Rapid Media. She is also a certified mountain biking instructor. Beth works in adventure film with such titles as Does This Canoe Make Me Look Fat? and Awaiting Atwood. Betty Ann McPherson is a respected psychotherapist in the Greater Sudbury area. As well, she is an avid outdoorswoman and a lover of the North and a wicked sense of humour.
